RACEHORSE REHOMING: BRAVO

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

UPDATE: Bravo has been rehomed and after a bit more time off to heal, will begin his new life as a low-level dressage and trail riding horse.

Bravo is a striking, brown 5-year-old gelding. He is a straightforward horse and easy to handle on the ground. He likes people but does not give everything away on the first meeting, you need to earn his trust to see the real him. He is approximately 16hh and well put together. He is good with other horses in the paddock and likes a play session. He has a personality and a look-at-me presence.

I am told he is well-balanced, easy-going and comfortable to ride. I believe he would be an incredible all-rounder, suited for most things including working equitation, adult riding club, classical dressage, farm work, team sorting, trail riding, potentially low-level jumping or eventing, showing etc. I can see him with a competent teenager or adult (male or female) and think he would be an incredible partner for someone. He has, on occasion, become a little worried when galloping horses come up behind him but listens to his rider. He will do best with a quiet handler who is clear in their communication and believes in mutual respect.

Bravo is retiring due to an injury, he has had 1-month of box rest and will need another 2 to 3 months off initially in a small yard then a paddock. The prognosis for coming back to racing is guarded and the owners have decided to retire him instead of trying. I spoke to the treating vet personally and have been told there is no reason why he would not heal well. Happy to discuss the injury with people who are seriously interested in him. He will have the normal wear and tear of a horse that has raced and prior to this injury, he has been very sound and well. A vet check is welcome if you wish. I treated him while he raced over a couple of years and he was always in good shape.

You will need to be experienced with retraining off the track horses or have a coach guiding you. Ideally, he will go to someone I know or can be vouched for by someone I know. Unless I know you exceptionally well, you will need to meet him in person.
