RACEHORSE REHOMING: KITTY
Kitty is a thoroughbred mare, 16hh (best guess), maybe a tad under. She is 6 years old, brown/dark bay, beautiful and nicely put together. She is retiring because she is no longer interested in the racing life. She is sound and has no known vices. Her daddy is Jungle Cat and mummy from Zabeel lines,
Kitty is aptly named as sometimes she likes to do things in "cat time" and on her own terms. Having said that I spoke with two of her track work riders and was told, she has "no nasties" does not rear, buck, spook or bolt. She can be a bit busy and appreciates variety to keep her mind active. She moves nicely, holds herself in a naturally good frame. Once she is away from racing, they feel like she would settle into an amazing horse. She will need a good let down and then be retrained by someone experienced. Both said she could do a bit of everything once she gets racing out of her system. She will need an experienced, confident rider and would possibly suit a competent older teenage girl if she had a trainer or parent to guide her through the retraining process. She would also benefit from going to a suitable retrainer to get the basics solidified at some point. She is currently unhappy in the racing environment which has prompted the trainer and owner to focus on her well-being. She is normally good for the farrier, vet and team to handle her on the ground but has shown some signs of not coping recently. She travels well in an angle float. She has had no major injuries,,,in fact, the only thing was a cut on one of her back legs. She spells in a paddock with other horses.
I personally think she would be an amazing horse once given the chance to de racehorse and find a new life with someone she trusts and respects. She will benefit from having a one on one relationship with someone but would also like a family situation. She could do anything:- eventing, team sorting, trail riding, beach rides, working equitation, dressage, farm work, mounted archery etc
You will need to be someone I know or can be vouched for by someone I know. You must be experienced, kind, competent and confident for this girl. She is not a beginners horse or a confidence builder.
