ASSISTED REHOMING: BOB & ACE

Buckle up for a bit of a read, this is a special and sad one. I am trying to help rehome a bonded pair of horses. Both horses were offered a safe place to live by an amazing couple. Bob (a standie) and Ace (a thoroughbred), Ace arrived with two others about 15 years ago after Ray Hadley put out a call for a home. Bob arrived about 5 years ago, Sadly, the wife passed away a couple of years ago and the husband about 6 months ago. Bob and Ace are being fed by the neighbour and the family of the owners have reached out for help. They are not horse people. They have been amazing and so far both horses have been wormed and their feet trimmed, Bob has had his teeth done and an old injury has been re xrayed to help in the rehoming process. Ace has had a vet check by the Equine Welfare Vets with NSW Racing and his teeth will be done shortly. NSW Harness Racing Rehoming have also assisted in providing some background information. Ideally, we would like them to be rehomed together. So....

BOB: is a 10 year old standardbred, he is absolutely stunning, black with a tiny bit of white. He is approximately 16.3hh/17hh. He was bred by a standardbred family who started and pretrained him. Bob then went to a trainer for trials but was injured. His family rehabbed him post injury and then decided not to race him. They rehomed him to his current place. He does not have a racename.
Bob is a little wary at first which is not surprising given the loss of his carers, He can be a tiny bit reactive but I feel very strongly that this is due to his current circumstances. I have had no problem at all forming a bond with him. In fact, my vet did say, he was shocked he wasn't at my place already. To be honest, the main reason he isn't is because I feel pretty strongly that he and Ace need to stay together. Bob's old injury means he is suitable for light riding only with no jumping. He has not been retrained to saddle but is fully harness trained. Bob was great for the vet and the farrier, we did have a short "discussion" re worming, but he was perfect once he knew what I wanted. He tends to follow you around like a dog and seems like children. Bob is a typical standie in that he is a good doer that can live on air, he is in magnificent condition.

ACE is a 22-year-old small (about 14.3hh/15hh) bay, thoroughbred. He is a very sweet, friendly horse and seems to take everything in his stride. He is currently in poor condition and needs some help to get him back to health. He has been assessed by the Equine Welfare vets at NSW Racing. Their assessment was, that he was still interested in living. He was happily eating, grazing, and all his vital signs were good, he just needs to be fed a diet more suited to his age. At the moment, he only gets hay daily as no one is living on the property. He was good for the farrier but needed a little help with his balance on his back legs. Ace did race under the name Boom Quest and he has 9 starts.
His teeth will be done as soon as possible.
I am looking for a very special home for these two. Someone who can provide the right care for Ace and maybe gently explore what Bob would like to do. Someone who lives on the property where they would be living. Both have shown me they like people and are very capable of forming a bond with them. Both would be suited to EAL work, being companion horses, or hanging around being amazing. I feel like Ace may like to be fussed over a bit, Bob is a bit more independent but does like just being with you. There is no hurry to find them a perfect forever home, except to make sure Ace is getting what he needs, Rehoming them separately is a possibilty, but I am concerned about the stress this would cause Ace....to lose his long-term home and Bob would be very hard for him. They are close to me so I check in as much as I can. They deserve to feel safe and loved, as they did with their old people. Both love carrots
Ideally, you will be someone I know, or can be vouched for by someone I know.
If you feel you can offer Bob & Ace a sanctuary for the rest of their lives, please reach out. I am happy to provide more information over the phone.
