About the Event
Hayley will tailor your lesson to meet the needs of both you and your horse. She can cater to riders of all ages and all levels. Dependent on your experience with Connected Riding, your lesson(s) might include:
- Balancing off the horse - Hayley will help you to feel neutral pelvis in a safe environment and provide you with the tools to self-test your position in the saddle
- Take you through some of the basic concepts of Connected Riding without your horse
- Groundwork to help your horse find a functional posture for ridden work
- Short "eyes closed" riding session - this allows you to feel your horse as you ride and allows you to feel how their movement changes depending on your body position. You will be led for this part of your lesson.
- Rebalancing in the saddle
- A normal riding lesson
Body Balance & Proprioception Session
Every 1-hour lesson comes with a 15-minute session on a saddle horse. This session is the foundation for all the other Connected Riding techniques. In this session, you will be asked to sit in your saddle in several different ways and do some body awareness exercises. Then small adjustments will be made until you can feel and experience what neutral pelvis feels like. You are also given some tips for self-testing which help once you are riding your own horse. This is also available for 45-minute lessons if you want. Even if you have done one of these sessions before, it is worthwhile revisiting the concept regularly.
In some instances, there may be opportunities for Observers to have a stand-alone Body Balance & Proprioception session. We strongly recommend using your own saddle for this,
If you have no experience with Connected Riding it is recommended that you have 2 lessons, with a decent gap in between to enable the information to be processed properly. For example, you may have a 1 hour which may cover balancing off the horse, some groundwork, a short eyes closed session and some ridden work. Then a 45-minute lesson of riding to consolidate the new ideas. If you have experience 45 mins to max 1 hour is recommended. You can also discuss your needs with Hayley to determine the best option for you and your horse.
You are welcome to watch other lessons, and this is often a great way to learn.
